Get Started with Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Athens Today!

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based talk therapy that helps people learn how their thoughts and feelings influence their behavior. A therapist who is trained in CBT helps the client identify the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that lead to cycles of distress and then teaches how to change them.

Challenging negative thoughts helps a client develop the confidence needed to try changing their behavior. A CBT therapist can also teach a client new coping skills such as how to relax, how to recognize and manage anxiety, or how to take action when feeling overwhelmed.

Therapy takes place over a specified number of sessions depending on the client’s situation and includes homework. CBT is one of the most effective treatments for a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, eating disorders, and substance abuse problems, and is one of the most widely used.

CBT can be very effective for people with symptoms of stress or anxiety because they learn how to transform their thought patterns and manage their emotions. Those who require addiction treatment are also good candidates for CBT. Plus, people with chronic pain or medical conditions can benefit from CBT, as it can help them deal with the pain and other symptoms in a more positive way.

In addition to helping clients cope with stressful life events, CBT can help many people develop healthier coping skills and emotional support by building better relationships with others. CBT is most effective when the client is actively engaged in therapy and completes homework assignments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

If you are a new client, you may schedule your consultation or your initial appointment by visiting the contact page and filling out the short form or outreaching directly to your desired provider by calling (470) 231-5355.

All outreaches are returned within 24 hours, during business hours.

Do you accept my insurance?

HWP does not accept insurance. Managed care companies were created to “manage” and contain escalating health care costs. Their bottom line is to reduce costs and raise profits; it is not to increase the quality of care professionals provide or your quality of life. HWP is solution-focused on quality of life and personal goals.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, credit cards, and health savings (HSA) or flex spending account (FSA) cards that have a major credit card logo on it are all accepted forms of payment.
