Whole Person Eating Disorder Counseling

If you’re looking for eating disorder counseling in Alpharetta, GA, then HWP’s team of mental health professionals can provide therapy sessions designed to help. Our eating disorder treatment approach focuses on the whole person.

We provide many types of therapy and help clients build a treatment plan that addresses the whole person – their mind, their body, and their environment — not just their eating disorder. It’s all interconnected and our eating disorder counseling services embody that idea.

We are not a residential treatment facility but rather a therapy office with mental health professionals who will help people with eating disorders to build a toolbox of coping skills. When eating disorder counseling is part of an eating disorder recovery treatment program, clients are more likely to achieve and maintain full recovery.

HWP is not a residential treatment facility for eating disorders.

What is Eating Disorder Counseling?

Eating disorders are eating, eating-related and body image disturbances that involve abnormal eating habits that can lead to physical and emotional damage. These disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and more.

Treating eating disorders with counseling is one of the most important aspects of recovery because it helps clients to identify triggers for unhealthy behaviors, to learn coping skills, and to develop a plan to avoid relapse.

Eating disorder counseling is not a one-size-fits all solution, because these disorders can be complex and each person will require a different level of care. However, finding an eating disorder counselor can seem overwhelming. At HWP, our counselors work with clients to tailor the treatment options specifically to fit their individual needs.

The goal of eating disorder therapy is to stop unhealthy behaviors by treating their causes instead of letting them continue. It is vital to follow the medical advice of your treatment team, and eating disorder counseling can also be a key component in your recovery.
Find more information about this topic at the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA)’s website or contact their helpline.
